Barber Recruit is going live. After months of building, mapping, and testing, we're opening the doors to barbers and shop owners in New Jersey. This post covers everything you need to know about what the platform does, how to get started, and what's coming next.

Barber Recruit is the first hiring marketplace built specifically for the barbershop industry. We started with a simple question: why does every industry have a hiring platform except barbershops? The answer is that nobody had built one yet. So we did.

We mapped every barbershop in New Jersey — all 1,190+ of them — across all 21 counties. Each shop has a listing with its location, compensation structure, specialties, and booking platform. Barbers can browse, search, filter, and compare shops side by side. Shop owners can claim their listing, update their details, and start receiving applications from qualified barbers.

Getting started takes about two minutes. Join the waitlist now, and when we go fully live you'll be able to create a profile with your experience, specialties, preferred compensation type, and portfolio of your work. Once your profile is live, you can browse shops, filter by county, town, compensation, and more, then apply to open chairs with a single click.

We're currently in beta, and founding shops receive free access while we build the network. That means everything — posting open chairs, browsing barber profiles, direct messaging, license verification, and your hiring analytics dashboard — is included at no cost during the beta period.

Here's how to get started: find your shop on Barber Recruit (it's already listed), click "Claim This Shop," and verify that you're the owner or manager. Once claimed, you can update your listing with your actual compensation details, requirements, shop culture description, and photos. When barbers start applying, you'll be the first to see them.

Why free? Because a marketplace only works when both sides show up. We need great shops on the platform to attract great barbers, and we need great barbers to make the platform valuable for shops. Charging shops before the network is built doesn't make sense. So we're giving founding partners free access and earning your business by proving the platform works.

We started in New Jersey because we know this market. The state has a dense, diverse barbershop industry with significant variation in compensation, culture, and client demographics across its 21 counties. A barber in Jersey City faces different market dynamics than a barber in Toms River, and our platform reflects that granularity.

New Jersey is also the right size to prove the model. It's large enough to be meaningful — over 1,190 shops and thousands of barbers — but compact enough that we can build real density on both sides of the marketplace quickly. Once we prove it works here, we'll expand state by state.
